"The Beginning of Full-Scale Global Expansion"
On July 9, CJ ENM announced that it will produce an original musical based on the film "Dancing Queen." Released in 2012, "Dancing Queen" is a comedy that tells the story of Junghwa, the wife of a Seoul mayoral candidate, who becomes a trainee to pursue her dream of becoming a dance singer.
The musical will feature stories of people who dare to dream again, based on the original film's message that "dreams have no expiration date." The production aims for a global audience and brings together Broadway director Jerry Mitchell, composer Helen Park, writer Cho Minhyung, and music director Won Misol. Mitchell said, "Because the subject matter is something everyone can relate to, I believe it has the potential to deeply resonate with audiences around the world."
Yeh Juyeol, head of CJ ENM's Performing Arts Division, stated, "This marks the beginning of our full-scale entry into the global musical market," and added, "We will continue to present original works that can compete not only in Korea but also on the world stage by utilizing CJ ENM's diverse intellectual property (IP)."
