On July 9, the Myeongdong Welfare Association announced that it will deploy "International Taxis" in Myeongdong, one of Seoul's most popular tourist destinations.
International Taxis are taxis operated by drivers who speak English, Chinese, and Japanese, and are designated exclusively for foreign tourists by the Seoul Metropolitan Government. With fixed fares and card payment options, tourists can use these taxis without concerns about being overcharged.
Foreign tourists can call an International Taxi by scanning the QR codes for International Taxi service, which are available on every street in Myeongdong.
Lee Kangsoo, Secretary General of the Myeongdong Welfare Association, said, "Myeongdong attracts a large number of tourists every year, but there have been issues with some taxi drivers overcharging passengers. Through this measure, we hope to increase the trust of foreign tourists in Myeongdong and build a positive image."
