The court's detention hearing to determine whether a warrant will be issued for the arrest of former President Yoon Seokyeol in connection with the 12·3 Martial Law Incident has begun.

On July 9, starting at 2:15 p.m., Chief Judge Nam Sejin, who is in charge of warrants at the Seoul Central District Court, is conducting the detention hearing for former President Yoon, who is facing charges including abuse of power and obstruction of the exercise of rights. Given the seriousness of the case, the hearing is expected to last for an extended period. Once the hearing concludes, former President Yoon will wait at Seoul Detention Center in Uiwang, Gyeonggi Province until the result of the hearing is announced.

The special prosecutor's team executed a detention warrant for court appearance in a waiting room next to Courtroom 321, where the detention hearing is being held, after former President Yoon appeared at the Seoul Central District Court. Typically, a suspect for whom a detention warrant has been requested appears at the prosecutor's office for the execution of the detention warrant before moving to the court. The special prosecutor's team explained that, in consideration of Yoon's status as a former president, they coordinated with the security service to minimize movement and selected a location that would allow for smooth execution of the procedure.

The special investigation team for insurrection, led by Deputy Special Prosecutor Park Eoksu, along with Deputy Chief Prosecutors Kim Jungkook and Cho Jaechul, and seven prosecutors, attended the hearing. They prepared a 178-page PowerPoint (PPT) presentation to explain the necessity of detaining former President Yoon.

It has been reported that the presentation is divided into sections according to the specific charges against former President Yoon, with Deputy Special Prosecutor Park, Deputy Chief Prosecutor Cho, and other prosecutors taking turns presenting the PPT. The PPT prepared by the special prosecutor's team includes some closed-circuit (CC) TV footage obtained during the investigation, but they stated that there are no plans to play the videos separately.

Deputy Special Prosecutor Park Jiyoung stated, "The special prosecutor's team is approaching the detention hearing solely on the basis of evidence and legal principles."

Former President Yoon's defense team, consisting of attorneys Kim Hongil, Kim Gyeri, Bae Boyoon, Song Jinho, Yoo Junghwa, Chae Myungseong, and Choi Jiwoo, is attending the hearing and arguing that the request for a detention warrant is unjustified.
