SEMAS Launches Pilot Tourism Products Linking Traditional Markets and Professional Baseball

Establishing a Model for Regional Economic Revitalization by Linking Specialized Markets, Local Tourism, and Sports
Attracting Baseball Tourists with Immersive Tourism Programs Showcasing Local Characteristics

The Daejeon Sejong Chungnam Regional Headquarters of the Small Enterprise and Market Service Agency (SEMAS) announced on July 9 that it will conduct a pilot operation of tourism products linked to the specialized market development project in order to revitalize local tourism.

This pilot tourism product operation was planned to attract the increasing number of baseball tourists, following the new opening of Hanwha Life Eagles Park, to Moonchang Traditional Market, a specialized market.

SEMAS collaborated with Jung-gu District Office in Daejeon, KORAIL, and Moonchang Traditional Market (Byeolbit Volunteer Group) to arrange a special KTX train and developed and launched tourism products that connect major tourist attractions in Jung-gu, Daejeon.

This product departs from Seoul on July 8 and offers an immersive tourism program that allows participants to experience Moonchang Traditional Market, which combines the core attractions, culture, and tourism of Jung-gu, Daejeon, and to enjoy a baseball game between the Hanwha Eagles and the Kia Tigers.

The main tourist attractions include: Daejeon Ppuri Park, which features sculptures of family names; Seongsimdang, Daejeon's representative bakery (offering mango rolls); Moonchang Traditional Market, with its 60-year history and tradition; and watching a baseball game at Hanwha Life Eagles Park. This program has been completed as an immersive tourism product that highlights the unique characteristics of the region.

Park Sunghyo, Director of SEMAS, stated, "Moonchang Traditional Market is an outstanding traditional market that has continuously promoted various events such as the Champion Night Market to attract more customers," and added, "As we enter the era of 10 million professional baseball spectators, it is a very meaningful achievement to encourage baseball tourists to visit traditional markets through tourism products linked to popular sports."
