Uljugun in Ulsan is strengthening its initiatives to prevent solitary deaths in response to the summer heatwave.
In particular, the county will expand the number of recipients for its "Well-being Check Mail Service" to address care blind spots among single-person households.
On July 9, Uljugun announced that, as a proactive measure for high-risk groups vulnerable to solitary death, it will increase the number of recipients for the "Well-being Check Mail Service" from the existing 175 to 250, and provide additional support to 65 households vulnerable to summer heatwaves.
This program involves postal workers visiting single-person households twice a month to deliver daily necessities and check on their well-being. If any signs of abnormality are detected during these visits, the postal worker immediately notifies Uljugun and the township's customized welfare team, which then takes emergency action.
Previously, in April, Uljugun completed practical consultations with Ulsan Post Office, Nam Ulsan Post Office, Eonyang-Onyang Post Office, and Uljugun Food Bank Market, and has been fully implementing the program since May. This additional support aims to strengthen the crisis response capabilities of health-vulnerable groups during the summer heatwave.
In addition, Uljugun is establishing a multi-layered care system through initiatives such as the "Uljugun-Style Solitary Death Prevention Project," the "Happy Village Care Project," and the "AI Speaker Smart Care Project."
An official from Uljugun stated, "We aim to create a warm Uljugun without solitary deaths through a comprehensive welfare system that leaves no one behind," adding, "We will continue to identify high-risk groups and expand our support programs."
