38 Billion KRW to Be Invested in Improving Residential Conditions
Goryeong County in North Gyeongsang Province (Governor Lee Namcheol) announced on July 8 that it had applied for the '2026 Vulnerable Area Living Condition Improvement Project,' which is overseen by the Presidential Committee for Balanced National Development and the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs. As a result, two locations?Wonsong-ri in Deokgok-myeon and Daegok 1-ri in Ugok-myeon?were selected among 154 sites nationwide, securing a total project budget of 3.8 billion KRW (including 1.7 billion KRW from the national government).
The 'Vulnerable Area Living Condition Improvement Project (Saetteul Village Project)' aims to improve residential conditions and enhance the quality of life for residents in rural and fishing villages where safety, sanitation, and living infrastructure are lacking, such as areas with clusters of old buildings, regions prone to natural disasters, and locations with insufficient basic infrastructure.
Wonsong-ri village in Deokgok-myeon is home to 80 households and 111 residents. Of these, 80% of the homes are over 30 years old, and 68.5% have slate roofs, making residential safety and sanitation conditions extremely vulnerable.
Daegok 1-ri village in Ugok-myeon has 36 households and 53 residents. The proportion of old houses stands at 80.7%, and the vacancy rate is 28.9%, indicating an urgent need for improvement in the area.
In response to the selection, Goryeong County plans to invest a total of 3.8 billion KRW?2 billion KRW for Wonsong-ri and 1.8 billion KRW for Daegok 1-ri?over four years starting in 2026. The funds will be used to improve various living conditions, including the construction of roads and water and sewage systems, as well as housing renovation, demolition of vacant homes, removal of slate roofs, and enhancement of communal village facilities.
Governor Lee Namcheol stated, "Being selected for this Saetteul Village Project will provide a real opportunity to improve the quality of life for residents in Goryeong County," adding, "We will do our utmost to create a safe and pleasant living environment where all residents can live comfortably."
