Gyeonggi Institute of Economy and Science Promotion Holds First Meeting with RISE Project Universities on July 9

On July 9, the Gyeonggi Institute of Economy and Science Promotion held its first official meeting with 50 RISE Project universities in the province at the Gyeonggi R&DB Center, marking the start of full-fledged efforts for mutual cooperation between the region and local universities.

RISE is a regional innovation-centered university support system, under which the Ministry of Education transfers university funding authority to local governments to foster talent tailored to regional needs and support university innovation.

At the inaugural meeting, participants discussed topics including the 2025 RISE annual implementation plan, the formation of the RISE Project University Council and the election of a chair university, strategies to strengthen achievements and publicity, and measures for inter-university networking and collaboration.

On the same day, Gyeonggi Province also officially launched the 'Gyeonggi RISE Project University Council.' The council will be responsible for building a network among universities, identifying and spreading best practices, and gathering opinions for policy improvement.

Kim Hyungon, President of the Gyeonggi Institute of Economy and Science Promotion, stated, "The RISE Project is a very important initiative that connects the region's innovation capabilities with universities to foster future talent and create a structure in which the region and universities grow together. Based on various governance structures such as the council, we will actively support the incorporation of field opinions and ensure that the province and universities can work together to bring about meaningful change."

Meanwhile, the Gyeonggi RISE Center selected a total of 28 universities and consortia in May through an evaluation process, including 16 individual universities and 12 consortia. As a result, a total of 50 institutions have been confirmed as participating universities, consisting of 25 general universities and 25 technical colleges.
