Accelerating Efforts to Improve Living Conditions
Sancheong County in South Gyeongsang Province has been selected for the "Saetteul Village Public Contest Project" for the eighth consecutive year. According to the county on July 9, Chiljeong Village in Danseong-myeon and Samgeo Village in Chahwang-myeon have been chosen for the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs' "2026 Rural Vulnerable Area Living Condition Improvement Project (Saetteul Village Project)" public contest.
With this, Sancheong County has been designated for the Saetteul Village Project for eight consecutive years, following Obu-myeon Ojeon District in 2019, Noeun Village in Saengcho-myeon and Banghwa Village in Saengbiryang-myeon in 2020, Cheokji Village in Sancheong-eup and Gusa Village in Danseong-myeon in 2021, Naejeong Village in Sancheong-eup in 2022, Yangchon Village in Chahwang-myeon and Sangneung Village in Saengbiryang-myeon in 2023, and Ungok Village in Sancheong-eup and Daehyeon Village in Obu-myeon last year.

In particular, the two villages selected as project sites for next year achieved this outcome as residents voluntarily formed steering committees since the end of last year. The villages were finally selected after establishing concrete plans for village environment improvement, which were developed through multiple resident discussions and benchmarking visits to advanced sites.
With this selection, the two villages will improve their deteriorated residential environments and outdated living infrastructure over a four-year period from 2026 to 2029.
They will dramatically improve living conditions by demolishing vacant houses, renovating slate roofs and other old homes, removing traditional toilets, upgrading community facilities, installing guardrails, fire hydrants, and CCTV, and repairing old fences.
Lee Seunghwa, Governor of Sancheong County, said, "This selection is thanks to the active efforts and participation of the residents," and added, "We will continue to do our best to improve the quality of life and revitalize village communities by steadily promoting projects to enhance living conditions and environments for our residents."
Meanwhile, Sancheong County has completed living condition improvement projects for six villages as of this year and is currently focusing on improving the residential environments of five additional villages.
