Hwasun Chonnam National University Hospital announced on July 9 that it will officially launch a collaborative platform to jointly drive the development and commercialization of medical technologies in partnership with local bio companies.
Recently, Hwasun Chonnam National University Hospital held the 'K-BioHealth Regional Center Support Project Open Medical Industry Support Meeting' at the Kim Jaebong Hall of the Future Medical Innovation Center, together with the Ministry of Health and Welfare, the Korea Health Industry Development Institute, and the Jeonnam Bioindustry Foundation.
This meeting was organized as part of a government project to support the rapid review and practical application of medical technologies by utilizing clinical data from hospital settings.
The focus was on sharing and supporting field-oriented practical strategies so that the government, relevant agencies, and local bio companies can test medical technologies in real hospital environments and quickly bring them to market.
More than 100 representatives from bio and medical device companies attended the meeting and exchanged a variety of opinions on creating a collaborative ecosystem between hospitals and companies.
The meeting began with opening remarks from Kim Hyungseok, the project manager and director of the Biomedical Research Institute at Hwasun Chonnam National University Hospital. It proceeded with a special lecture on intellectual property rights by Park Sungyong, patent attorney at IPON Co., followed by networking and discussions on collaboration among institutions.
In the subsequent presentation session, Jung Hyuncheol, head of strategic planning at the Jeonnam Bioindustry Foundation, introduced the main aspects of the regional center support project and the industrial infrastructure of Jeonnam. Park Rayoung, research professor at Hwasun Chonnam National University Hospital, presented on the topic of 'A Collaborative Demonstration Platform Created by Hospitals and Companies,' highlighting the potential of a hospital-based demonstration environment.
The meeting was significant in that it provided an opportunity to share in advance and lay the groundwork for the hospital-centered cooperation strategy led by Hwasun Chonnam National University Hospital, ahead of the '2025 Interbiz Bio Partnering & Investment Forum' held in Jeju until July 4.
At the '2025 Interbiz Forum,' Hwasun Chonnam National University Hospital met with venture companies, patent law firms, and related organizations in the biohealth sector to discuss technology commercialization and joint research collaboration. At this event, the hospital emphasized its role as a key institution leading medical technology demonstrations and introduced its plans to build a collaborative platform spanning from the verification of innovative technologies to their actual industrialization.
Kim Hyungseok, director of the research institute, stated, "We will share the hospital's clinical experience and medical infrastructure with local bio companies and establish a system for joint technology verification and application," adding, "Hwasun Chonnam National University Hospital will lead a hospital-centered open collaboration model."
Min Jeongjun, hospital director, said, "Hwasun Chonnam National University Hospital is transforming into a biohealth innovation hospital that leads not only in medical care but also in technology development and industrialization," and added, "Through various support programs such as joint clinical research, smart clinical trial linkage, AI-based analysis, technology transfer, and patent consulting, we will further strengthen the hospital-company linkage ecosystem."
