Five Key Pledges Announced Alongside Candidacy
New Leadership to Be Elected at National Convention on the 27th
On July 8, Sungyoul Kim, former chief spokesperson of the Reform New Party, declared his candidacy for the party's Supreme Council, stating, "I will make sure that Junseok Lee's one-man show is not repeated." On the same day, Kim held a press conference at the National Assembly's communication center and announced, "With a strong sense of determination and responsibility to share the heavy burden of the future of the Reform New Party and Korean politics with Representative Junseok Lee, I am running for the Supreme Council."

Regarding his motivation for running, Kim said, "The reason for my candidacy is clear. I want to ensure that the party is no longer a burden to Junseok Lee, but a source of strength. By joining the leadership, I will take on greater responsibility and legitimacy, and through active media engagement, I will work to raise the profile of our party." He continued, "As someone with experience in both practical and political affairs, I am determined to directly address and improve the issues within the party that became evident during the presidential election. My purpose and mission in running is to prevent another 'Junseok Lee one-man show' like we saw in the recent presidential race."
Kim also presented five pledges. Specifically, he promised to: establish the party's philosophy and identity; apply the principle of 'nominating those with records and not nominating those without'; overcome the limitations of minor parties through 'bipartisan caucus' policy alliances; build a 'strong team' with a deep bench of talent; and 'strengthen party members' rights.' He emphasized, "I, Sungyoul Kim, am a prepared Supreme Council member whose competence and trustworthiness have been verified by the party, ready to serve at any time. From the announcement of leaving the Galbijip and the founding of the party in a semi-basement, to this recent presidential election, I have been a steadfast founding member alongside you all." Furthermore, he added, "Recognized for my sincerity and abilities, I have held key positions such as deputy head of the organization, chief spokesperson, and public relations advisor to the party leader. With political experience, competence, and sincerity that rival those of the two major parties, I will be a strong supporter for Representative Junseok Lee."
Previously, on July 8, it was confirmed that Congressman Junseok Lee of the Reform New Party is preparing to run for party leader. On June 19, during a Channel A YouTube program, "Political Signal," Lee was asked about running for party leader and stated, "I haven't decided yet, but if I need to take on a role, I won't refuse." The Reform New Party plans to hold a national convention on July 27 to elect a new leadership. On July 13 and July 23, the party will hold a candidate vision presentation and an online candidate debate, respectively.
