On the afternoon of July 8, sudden heavy rain hit Seoul, causing flooding in various areas including roads. Train operations on some sections of Seoul Subway Line 1 were temporarily suspended.
According to Korea Railroad Corporation (KORAIL) and other sources, at around 7:06 p.m. that day, KTX and subway trains traveling on both directions between Noryangjin and Daebang stations came to a halt due to the torrential downpour. Subway trains on both directions between Sindorim and Guro stations were also temporarily suspended at around 7:09 p.m. Train operations on these tracks resumed around 7:30 p.m.
Flooding occurred on roads in the Guro-gu Gocheok-dong apartment complex area, near Mokdonggyo Bridge in Yangcheon-gu, and near Yanghwa Bridge, in southwestern Seoul, after a heavy rain warning was issued at 6:50 p.m. No casualties have been reported as a result. A heavy rain warning is issued when rainfall is expected to reach 90mm in three hours or 180mm in twelve hours.
Additionally, the east-side underpass at Omokgyo on the Seobu Urban Expressway toward Seongsan was temporarily closed, and the lower three lanes of the section from the southern end of World Cup Boulevard to the southern end of Seongsan Bridge on Olympic-daero toward Hanam at Mokdong IC were also closed.
Previously, at 6:40 p.m., the Korea Meteorological Administration issued a heavy rain advisory for the northwestern districts of Seoul, including Eunpyeong-gu, Mapo-gu, Seodaemun-gu, Yongsan-gu, Jongno-gu, and Jung-gu. A heavy rain advisory is issued when rainfall is expected to reach 60mm in three hours or 110mm in twelve hours.
A heat wave warning has been in effect across all of Seoul since 10:00 a.m. the previous day.
