This conference, under the theme "Global Educational Cooperation for a Peaceful and Sustainable Global Community," was attended by over 200 domestic and international education experts, teachers, and education office officials. For online participants, the event was also broadcast live on the Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education's YouTube channel "GO3."
The event was organized into two parts: the first part featured keynote speeches and a panel discussion, while the second part included thematic presentations and a panel discussion.
In the first part, keynote speeches were delivered by Greg, Professor at Beijing Normal University, and Josephine Kim, Professor at Harvard Graduate School of Education. The subsequent panel discussion was moderated by Superintendent Im Taehee, who, together with the keynote speakers, discussed the values of global education and the responsibilities of education.
Summarizing the keynote speakers' remarks, Superintendent Im emphasized that what is fundamentally needed in global education is not technical skills but a global mindset. He highlighted the importance of focusing on responsibility and values, as well as the ability to embrace the diversity of others.
The second part began with thematic presentations: "Policy Directions of the Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education" by Kim Myungjin, Supervisor at the Policy Planning Division, and "A Study on Expanding International Exchange Cooperation for Fostering Global Talent at the Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education" by Lee Jiyeong, Research Fellow at the Gyeonggi Institute of Educational Research.
The ensuing panel discussion was moderated by Kim Eunyoung, Senior Research Fellow at the Korea Educational Development Institute, under the theme "Global Educational Cooperation: Changes and Growth Created Together by the Educational Community." Researchers, teachers, students, and other diverse members of the educational community participated in the discussion.
The panelists proposed roles and support measures for international exchange cooperation by each educational stakeholder, as well as ways to expand school-level international exchange cooperation linked to the curriculum. They also agreed that it is essential to proactively create environments that enable students to develop international awareness and grow as global citizens.
Superintendent Im Taehee stated, "Human society is now facing a great transformation driven by rapid changes in science and technology," and added, "Amid complex crises such as climate change, unstable international order, and war, we must discuss how 'education' should change and what role it should play in solving global challenges, and we have a responsibility to take action."
He further emphasized, "Education has the power to overcome differences and build global consensus, and I am confident that it will become the key to opening a hopeful future for the global community. The Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education will take the lead in creating a better future through education and a more peaceful and just world through international exchange cooperation."
Meanwhile, the Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education is actively working to ensure that international exchange cooperation activities become educational activities in which all students participate as part of the curriculum at every school level. To this end, it has produced and distributed "International Exchange Cooperation: Beyond the Classroom, Into the World!" and is making practical efforts to support schools in the field.
