The city invested a total budget of 42.3 billion KRW in the two facilities, with construction beginning in December 2021 and completion achieved in April of this year. The two buildings face each other across a central garden and are designed to allow access between them via connecting corridors installed from the second to the fifth floors.
The Heungdeok Youth Culture House consists of two basement levels and five above-ground floors, with a total floor area of 4,007 square meters. It is equipped with dedicated spaces for youth, including a dance practice room, club rooms, media room, culture station, book cafe, performance hall, self-governance activity room, and counseling room.
The Giheung National Sports Center was built with two basement levels and five above-ground floors, covering a total area of 5,772 square meters. Its facilities include a 25-meter, six-lane swimming pool, a children's pool, a multipurpose gymnasium suitable for basketball and badminton, and a screen park golf course.
Notably, the center is equipped with dedicated shower rooms, changing rooms, and restrooms designed to accommodate families with disabilities. These facilities were established in response to a suggestion made by a parent of a youth with disabilities during a parent meeting last year, as reflected by Mayor Lee Sangil of Yongin.
Mayor Lee stated, "After a long wait, excellent facilities for citizens and youth have been established in the Heungdeok area," adding, "We will ensure that the necessary budget for facility operations is well prepared so that these spaces become beloved by the community."
Approximately 200 people attended the opening ceremony, including Mayor Lee, city and provincial council members, Kim Heejeong, superintendent of the Yongin Office of Education, key leaders from Yeongdeok 1-dong, officials from related organizations, local residents, and youth.
In his commemorative speech, Mayor Lee remarked, "After a long wait, excellent facilities for citizens and youth have been established in the Heungdeok area," and added, "Operating the two facilities will require about 6 billion KRW annually, and I will continue to ensure the budget is well prepared so that these spaces are loved by the community."
