Gyeonggi Province Expands Cooperation with Poland's Dolnoslaskie Voivodeship on Climate and Youth Exchange

Gyeonggi Province is pursuing cooperation with the Dolnoslaskie Voivodeship of Poland on climate crisis response and youth exchange initiatives.

On the 7th, Gyeonggi Province announced that it held a meeting with the Dolnoslaskie Voivodeship at the Gyeonggi Provincial Government Office, where both local governments exchanged views on various policy issues, including the climate crisis and youth policy.

This meeting was a follow-up to the memorandum of understanding (MOU) on friendly cooperation signed between the two regions in November 2023.

The meeting covered topics such as Gyeonggi Province's climate policies, including climate satellite launches; urban and rural smart farm development projects; youth opportunity packages such as Youth Ladder, Youth Gap Year, and youth capacity-building support; as well as opportunity income for artists and athletes, and the Gyeonggi Tour Pass.

The Dolnoslaskie Voivodeship presented its policy status on climate response initiatives such as electric vehicles, conditions for inter-university exchange policies, and cultural and tourism resources including UNESCO-listed heritage sites, and shared opinions on possible areas for future cooperation.

Park Geungyun, Director-General of International Cooperation at Gyeonggi Province, referred to last week's discussions on advanced industries and corporate cooperation between the two regions during a meeting between Krzysztof Gawkowski, Deputy Prime Minister of Poland, and Ko Youngin, Vice Governor for Economic Affairs. He stated, "For continued cooperation between Korea and Poland, collaboration between Gyeonggi Province and the Dolnoslaskie Voivodeship, which are key hubs for important advanced industries in both countries, is even more necessary."

In response, Krzysztof Hodun, Head of International Cooperation and leader of the Dolnoslaskie Voivodeship delegation, said, "We hope to see not only cooperation in advanced industries such as semiconductors, but also active exchanges among young people, including university students. In particular, with the participation of the mayors (representatives) of the basic local governments of the Dolnoslaskie Voivodeship at this meeting, even closer cooperation seems possible."

The Dolnoslaskie Voivodeship of Poland has formed an industrial cluster with major Korean companies such as LG Electronics, LG Energy Solution, and Mando, as well as global companies including Mercedes-Benz and Toyota, investing and operating in the region. In November 2023, a direct flight route was launched connecting its capital, Wroclaw, and Incheon.
