Sejong City, marking the 10th anniversary of its friendly cooperation with Shanxi Province, China, reaffirmed the trust and friendship built over the years and pledged multifaceted collaboration for joint development in the future.
On July 7, Sejong Mayor Minho Choi met with the Shanxi delegation, led by Vice Governor Chen Chunjiang, to review the achievements of exchanges over the past decade and discuss sustainable cooperation measures, according to an announcement on July 8.
Shanxi Province is known as the birthplace of ancient Chinese civilization and the starting point of the Silk Road, and is home to major landmarks such as the Mausoleum of the First Qin Emperor and the Terracotta Army. Since signing a friendly cooperation agreement in 2015, Sejong City and Shanxi Province have promoted practical exchanges in various fields, including youth and cultural exchanges and friendly sports competitions.
On this day, Sejong City requested a performance by the Shanxi cultural and arts troupe at the opening ceremony of the 14th Citizens’ Sports Festival, scheduled for September, so that citizens can share in the 10th anniversary of friendly cooperation. In return, Shanxi Province invited Sejong City to the Silk Road International Expo, scheduled for May next year. As part of efforts to revitalize youth exchanges, a Shanxi performance troupe will be dispatched to Sejong City in September.
Mayor Choi stated, "In response to Shanxi Province's invitation, we will positively consider Sejong City's participation in the Silk Road Expo next May."
Taking the opportunity of the Shanxi delegation's visit, Sejong City plans to further strengthen intercity exchanges and expand programs that citizens can directly experience.
Vice Governor Chen Chunjiang said, "This year marks the meaningful 10th anniversary of friendly cooperation between Sejong City and Shanxi Province. I strongly support further strengthening exchanges between our two cities and formally invite Sejong City to participate as an official delegation at the Silk Road Expo to be held in May next year."
In response, Mayor Choi said, "Shanxi Province, once the capital of ancient China, and Sejong City, the future capital of Korea, share a common identity as capitals. I hope for even deeper exchanges with China in the future."
