Daegu Songjeong Elementary School (Principal Lee Mijeong) announced on July 8 that Jihoon Kim, a parent of the school and the owner of an optical shop in the Dongho district of Daegu, has been practicing warm-hearted sharing by donating glasses to 50 students every year for several years.
Jihoon Kim began his donations in 2006, when his eldest child was attending the school, and continued until 2010. He resumed his generous activities in 2022, when his second child (currently a fourth grader) enrolled, and has continued them to the present day.
Jihoon Kim, a parent of Songjeong Elementary School in Daegu, has been donating glasses to 50 students every year.
Jihoon Kim started his donation activities based on the belief that "when children can see the world clearly, their joy of learning grows as well." Each year, he works with the school to identify students in need of vision correction and personally supports the entire process, from professional eye examinations to custom-made glasses.
Students who have received glasses through these donations have shown positive changes in classroom concentration and confidence. Teachers and parents have also responded that, although small, this is a truly valuable and necessary initiative.
Jihoon Kim stated that he plans to continue his donation activities in the future and hopes that more students will be able to enjoy school life with healthy vision.
Principal Lee Mijeong said, "This is a warm-hearted action that deeply touches the lives of each and every student," adding, "It is a moving example of how the care and sharing of the local community can become a great force for education and the future of our children."
Through such sharing practices involving both parents and the local community, Daegu Songjeong Elementary School is building a happy school community for everyone.
