71 Hectares Around the Sindoan Military Experience Center
Five Themed Zones to Embrace Global Peace, Healing, and History
On July 8, the city of Gyeryong in South Chungcheong Province announced that it had held the final report meeting for the "Feasibility Study and Basic Plan for the Korean War Participating Nations Memorial Garden" project at the city hall situation room on July 7.
The meeting was attended by Mayor Lee Eungwoo, as well as about 20 related officials and advisory committee members. During the session, the direction for the garden's development, key challenges, and the basic conceptual plan were presented.
The garden will be established on a site of approximately 71 hectares around the Sindoan-myeon Military Experience Center, and will be designed under the concept of the "Peace-Blooming Flowerdabi Garden." It will consist of five themed areas: ▲ Wellness Garden (a space for appreciating nature and healing), ▲ Participating Nations Garden (a space to honor the sacrifice and dedication of the nations that participated in the Korean War), ▲ Learning Garden (an educational space to learn about nature and culture), ▲ Military Garden (a welfare space for soldiers, military families, and veterans), and ▲ Harmony Garden (a cultural space for citizens and soldiers to come together within the garden).
The garden is planned not only as a simple park, but as a symbolic space reflecting Gyeryong's historical significance and identity, and as a place to deliver a message of peace to both domestic and international visitors.
It is designed to commemorate the historical significance of the countries that participated in the Korean War and to share that spirit with future generations.
Mayor Lee Eungwoo stated, "The creation of a national garden in Gyeryong will become a symbol of peace on the Korean Peninsula and throughout the world, as well as of national unity. We will focus all administrative efforts to ensure that this project, which aims to improve residents' quality of life and strengthen the city's brand, can be realized under the leadership of the central government."
Meanwhile, the city plans to pursue designation as a national garden through close cooperation with the central government and to further strengthen its identity as a garden city.
