CPTED (Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design) refers to a design technique that aims to eliminate factors that could lead to crime in urban environments and reduce residents' anxiety by means of environmental planning.

The targeted areas for installation are locations such as commercial alleyways and access roads where safety facilities are lacking or insufficient. Previously, the city gathered opinions on the project sites from local residents, including the Jungang Market Merchants Association and community leaders, as well as the Yongin Dongbu Police Station. After completing detailed facility designs, construction began this month.

This project, which is part of the Jungang-dong Smart Urban Regeneration initiative, is being carried out with a budget of 500 million won. Facilities to be installed in the area include: security lights and pavement markers; logo projectors; emergency call bells that connect to the control center in case of emergency; and smart poles that integrate CCTV cameras, lighting, and displays.

In addition, the city will replace old security lights in the market alleyways with designer lighting to improve brightness and enhance the landscape, and will install facilities along busy roads to improve nighttime visibility for pedestrians and promote psychological comfort. The construction is scheduled to be completed by September.

Lee Sangil, Mayor of Yongin, said, "This project will greatly help increase trust within the local community and enable citizens to use the Jungang Market area more safely."
