Lotte Wellfood Launches "Seolreim Coolish Vanilla"... Strengthening Korea-Japan Lotte Collaboration

Japan Lotte's "Coolish Vanilla" Applied to "Seolreim"
First Case of Introducing a Popular Japanese Lotte Ice Cream Brand with Original Name and Specifications

Lotte Wellfood announced on July 8 that it has launched Japan Lotte's popular ice cream "Coolish Vanilla" in Korea under the name "Seolreim Coolish Vanilla." This marks the first time that Lotte Wellfood has introduced a Japanese Lotte ice cream brand with the same brand name and specifications as the original.

Lotte Wellfood Launches "Seolreim Coolish Vanilla"... Strengthening Korea-Japan Lotte Collaboration

Seolreim, released in 2003, is Korea's first pouch-type ice cream. Thanks to its unique concept, it achieved sales of approximately 30 billion KRW within just one year of its launch, establishing itself as a leading ice cream brand. In its 23rd year on the market, it has continued to enjoy steady popularity, recording sales of nearly 20 million units in the first half of this year alone, which is typically considered the off-season.

Japan Lotte's "Coolish Vanilla" is a product that originated from Seolreim after it was introduced to Japan. It was developed in a format that provides instant refreshment to suit local food culture, gaining popularity as a "drinkable ice cream." In 2021, a new patented blending technology was applied to help the fine ice particles separate more easily, further strengthening its identity as a "frozen drink." Marketing efforts also featured athletes as models, emphasizing the concept of "an ice cream that instantly cools your body when you drink it." Last year, it grew into a major brand in Japan, recording sales of 18.2 billion yen (approximately 172 billion KRW).

Lotte Wellfood decided to introduce this product in response to increased demand for ice cream during the summer, aiming to offer consumers a product that delivers instant refreshment. The company plans to strengthen the Seolreim brand's competitiveness by launching this as a new flavor. Seolreim Coolish Vanilla will be produced directly at Lotte Wellfood’s manufacturing plant, using the same formula proven in the Japanese market. To recreate Coolish’s signature fine ice particles, the company uses the "Ziegra" ice equipment. Introduced earlier this year, Ziegra is a facility that produces extremely small ice granules and was first used in the production of the ice cream "Wa."

Meanwhile, since the "One Lotte Food Company Strategy Meeting" chaired by Lotte Group Chairman Shin Dongbin last year, Lotte in Korea and Japan have continued various collaborations, including joint sourcing, marketing support activities, and cross-selling of each other's products. Active cross-selling is underway through collaboration between the export departments of Lotte Wellfood and Japan Lotte.

For example, in February, Lotte Wellfood imported Japan Lotte's Choco Mini Pastry Pie No Mi and launched it in Korea as "Paiyeolmae." Japan Lotte has imported Lotte Wellfood's Lover Lover Jelly, Zero Jelly, dumplings, and tteokbokki, introducing them to the Japanese market. In addition, Pepero, selected as the first global mega-brand product of One Lotte, is being sold through Japan Lotte's Vietnam subsidiary to local distributors. Both companies plan to analyze the results of cross-selling to determine strategic products for each target country and gradually increase the number of products available for sale.
