This event was organized with the aim of nurturing regionally-based trade professionals and strengthening the foundation of the export industry by providing practical trade knowledge and employment information to university students in the Gyeongbuk area.
In particular, the program was structured to focus on practical skills, enabling students majoring in trade and related fields to acquire knowledge and experience they can immediately apply in the field.
The FTA practical training session was led by Kim Gyuin, a customs broker from Jipyung Customs Corporation. The lecture covered both theory and real-world cases, including the concept and current policies of FTAs, export and import customs clearance procedures, rules of origin determination, and FTA utilization strategies. Participants were able to deepen their understanding of export and import operations and received practical guidance for their future career planning.
During the subsequent employment mentoring session, four current trade professionals who are alumni of the GTEP program participated as speakers. They provided vivid advice based on job search strategies, corporate culture, and on-the-job experiences. The structure of learning theory in the FTA session followed immediately by hearing about practical experiences offered students a highly engaging and tangible learning experience.
The Yeungnam University GTEP program is a trade expert training initiative jointly organized by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and the Korea International Trade Association, and is currently operated at 20 universities nationwide.
The Yeungnam University program provides students with global trade experience through activities such as overseas market research, participation in trade fairs, and export consultations, while also supporting local companies in expanding overseas.
A representative from the Gyeongbuk FTA Trade Promotion Center stated, "This program was a great opportunity to simultaneously acquire practical trade knowledge and enhance employment competitiveness," and added, "We will continue to actively support the global advancement of young people in Gyeongbuk through cooperation with local universities, and strive to enhance the sustainability of the region's export industry."
