Sharing Insights on Life from the Classics
The "2025 Uiseong County Community Reading" author lecture, organized by Uiseong County in North Gyeongsang Province to promote reading culture and enhance the quality of life for residents, was held to great acclaim.
On July 3, the county announced that it had hosted a profound lecture at the On Nuri Hall on the fourth floor of the Bongyang Onnuriteo Library, inviting entertainer and writer Ko Myunghwan to speak on the theme "Repetition Makes the Difference."
This lecture was part of the "Uiseong County Community Reading" program to encourage reading, and was planned around Ko's book, "The Classics Answered - On the Life We Ought to Live," which was selected as the theme book.
Ko Myunghwan candidly and sincerely shared the ups and downs and the journey of overcoming adversity he experienced while transforming from a comedian to a restaurant CEO and a lecturer.
Ko Myunghwan emphasized, "I overcame life's crises through reading, and the habit of repeatedly reading books changed my life," adding, "The time spent reading classics is a time for self-reflection, and simple repetition determines the direction of life."
In particular, his specific stories about putting sentences from books into practice in daily life and creating opportunities for personal growth deeply resonated with the audience.
The hall was filled with residents who found a new appreciation for the value of classics, and responded with enthusiastic applause to the powerful yet subtle changes brought about by repetition and reading.
Kim Jusu, Governor of Uiseong County, said, "Ko Myunghwan's lecture was a special time that made us reflect on the meaning of life," and added, "We will continue to expand various reading culture programs that contribute to residents' emotional healing and self-development."
Meanwhile, starting in September, Uiseong County plans to continue its "Meet the Author" lecture series by inviting experts from various fields, including Professor Lee Hosun ("Techniques for Intergenerational Communication"), author Jung Woochul ("A Masterpiece That Changed My Life"), and Professor Lee Junyoung ("2026 Trend Korea").
Lecture registration is on a first-come, first-served basis starting on the first of each month, and can be completed by visiting the library, calling, or using the Uiseong County integrated reservation service. For more information, please contact the Uiseong County Library.
