Gyeonggi Siheung SNU Pharmaceutical and Bio Workforce Training Center Opens on July 7

On July 7, Gyeonggi Province and Siheung City opened the "Gyeonggi Siheung SNU Pharmaceutical and Bio Workforce Training Center" at Seoul National University Siheung Campus.


The Gyeonggi Siheung SNU Pharmaceutical and Bio Workforce Training Center is an educational facility established to cultivate field-ready talent through collaboration among academia, industry, and research institutes, in response to the rapid growth of the bio industry and the increasing demand for practical professionals.


The center, operated by the Seoul National University Institute for Future Innovation, is located on the 5th floor (1,477 square meters) of the Education Cooperation Building at SNU Siheung Campus. It is equipped with a training lab that meets Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) standards, a virtual reality (VR) training room, and a theoretical education room.

The center plans to nurture 1,500 bio professionals annually by offering customized training programs tailored to industry needs, operating startup growth support programs, and providing a platform for information exchange and networking in the pharmaceutical and bio sectors.


At the opening ceremony, a memorandum of understanding (MOU) was also signed with 12 pharmaceutical and bio companies to collaborate on workforce development projects in the bio field.


Youngin Ko, Deputy Governor of Gyeonggi Province for Economic Affairs, stated, "Talent development is the core driving force of advanced industries, and as Siheung is emerging as a hub of the bio industry following its designation as a national advanced strategic industry bio-specialized complex, I hope this center will serve as a growth foundation leading the next 100 years of Korea's bio industry. Gyeonggi Province will continue to provide unwavering support."


Meanwhile, Gyeonggi Province has established an Edu-Station within the Gyeonggi Business and Science Accelerator to foster bio talent and is conducting advanced talent training programs in cooperation with the Korea Biotechnology Industry Organization and universities. In partnership with Gachon University, the province is operating programs such as an advanced industry talent development bootcamp, nurturing 2,200 bio professionals annually.
