KTX Mileage Now Included in a Credit Card for the First Time
Earn Up to 5.5% Points on Train Ticket and Commuter Pass Purchases
Samsung Card announced on July 7 that it has launched the "KTX Samsung Card," the first card to offer KTX mileage benefits, in collaboration with Korea Railroad Corporation (KORAIL).
The KTX Samsung Card is a co-branded product developed in partnership with KORAIL. In April, Samsung Card signed a strategic business agreement with Korea Railroad Corporation.
The KTX Samsung Card provides rewards in the form of "KTX Mileage Points" based on card usage. The accumulated KTX Mileage Points are automatically converted into KTX mileage the following month. The converted mileage can be used when booking train tickets.
When purchasing train tickets or KTX commuter passes, customers can receive up to 5.5% in combined basic and additional rewards. For domestic and overseas merchant transactions, 0.5% of the amount spent is accumulated as KTX Mileage Points. An additional 5% reward is provided for train ticket and KTX commuter pass purchases, allowing a maximum of 5.5% to be accumulated as KTX Mileage Points.
The basic reward benefit is provided without any restrictions on the previous month's spending or accumulation limits. The additional reward for train ticket purchases offers up to 30,000 points per month if the cardholder spends at least 400,000 won in the previous month.
For essential daily spending categories such as coffee shops, convenience stores (including Storyway), discount stores, and taxis, the reward rate is increased to 1% by adding an extra 0.5% to the basic 0.5%, with no minimum spending requirement or cap.
Samsung Card and KORAIL will run an additional rewards promotion to commemorate the launch of the KTX Samsung Card through the end of the year.
Until the end of the year, the additional reward for train ticket purchases will be increased from 5% to 10%. Including the basic reward, customers can accumulate up to 10.5% in points.
When using Storyway, operated by KORAIL Retail, customers can receive additional points on top of the 1% essential daily spending reward, for a total of up to 10% extra points.
Additionally, the KTX Samsung Card features four card plate designs inspired by KTX trains and tracks. The annual fee is 20,000 won for both domestic-only and international (Mastercard) versions.
A Samsung Card representative stated, "This is the first collaborative product released after signing the agreement with KORAIL, and it is designed to provide the greatest benefits to railway customers," adding, "We also plan to collaborate in various fields beyond card products."
