The best-selling model was the 520i. BMW sold 7,116 units of the 520i in the first half of the year. This model has gained significant popularity by offering advanced convenience features and cutting-edge technologies that are highly favored by Korean consumers as standard equipment.
The 8th-generation BMW 5 Series, which was first launched in Korea in 2023, has expanded its lineup to include the PHEV (plug-in hybrid electric vehicle) model 'BMW 530e xDrive', the high-performance PHEV model 'BMW 550e xDrive', and the all-wheel-drive pure electric model 'BMW i5 xDrive40', bringing the total number of available powertrains to ten. This reflects BMW Group's 'Power of Choice' strategy, which aims to provide consumers with a diverse range of options.
In particular, the PHEV models 'BMW 530e', '530e xDrive', and '550e xDrive' recorded a combined total of 1,599 units sold in the first half of the year. Sales of the 5 Series PHEV models increased more than fourfold compared to the same period last year.
The 'BMW 530e' (including xDrive), which was the best-selling PHEV model in Korea this year, delivered 1,512 units. It offers a combined maximum output of 299 horsepower and a combined fuel efficiency of 15.9 km per liter. In addition, it can travel up to 73 km on a single charge (based on Ministry of Environment certification), providing eco-friendliness comparable to that of a pure electric vehicle for daily use.
The BMW 550e combines a BMW TwinPower Turbo inline 6-cylinder gasoline engine with a maximum output of 313 horsepower and a BMW 5th-generation eDrive electric motor with 197 horsepower, resulting in a combined maximum output of 489 horsepower and a maximum torque of 71.4 kg·m. It accelerates from a standstill to 100 km/h in just 4.3 seconds. On a single charge, it can travel 62 km using only the electric motor (based on Ministry of Environment certification).
The BMW i5, a pure electric premium sedan, recorded a total of 828 units sold in the first half of the year, making it the best-selling model among electric vehicles in its class.
A BMW representative stated, "The BMW 5 Series, which was the first model sold by BMW Korea in 1995, has solidified its position as a best-selling model, with nearly 300,000 units sold in Korea alone as of June this year."
