Superintendent Choi Kyojin of Sejong Emphasizes the Need for Attention to Ensure Students Have a Safe Summer

With the arrival of the full summer season, a student water safety management plan has been established and distributed to schools at all levels to prevent water-related safety accidents.

According to the Sejong City Office of Education on July 7, the summer vacation period in July and August each year is a time when the incidence of water safety accidents is high. Therefore, before the vacation, all schools were instructed to strengthen pre-education for students on water safety accident prevention and emergency response procedures.

The safety management plan includes the following main components: strengthening water safety accident prevention education based on the curriculum; enhancing practical response capabilities to water safety accidents; and establishing a system of cooperation for water safety and spreading a culture of safety.

The plan encourages the activation of water safety accident prevention education tailored to the characteristics of each school level, and mandates that all schools operate a focused water safety accident prevention week before the summer vacation.

It also instructs schools to prioritize water play safety education and water sports accident prevention education, reflecting the seven standard guidelines for school safety education. Schools are encouraged to actively use safety education materials provided through the school safety support system to conduct customized safety education on topics such as daily life safety, traffic safety, violence prevention and personal protection, prevention of drug and cyber addiction, disaster safety, occupational safety, and first aid.

In particular, the Education Office's Safety Experience Education Center is expanding its hands-on safety education programs, offering a variety of water safety experiences such as first aid, disaster and ship safety, and programs in which families can participate together. To enhance the expertise of survival swimming instructors, a council of survival swimming pool managers is being operated, and both practical training sessions during summer vacation and ongoing remote training are being conducted.

Superintendent Choi Kyojin said, "I hope students will observe water safety rules during the summer and enjoy a healthy and safe summer," adding, "I also ask parents to pay special attention and care so that their children can have a safe summer."
