Prime Minister Kim Minseok plans to oversee key state affairs in Sejong for a week starting July 7.
According to the Prime Minister's Office on July 6, Prime Minister Kim will hold his inauguration ceremony at 9:30 a.m. the following day at the Government Complex Sejong. For one week, he will commute between the official residence and his office in Sejong to carry out his schedule.
This plan is reportedly in line with President Lee Jaemyung's request for the prime minister to pay close attention to Sejong.
On July 9, Prime Minister Kim is scheduled to visit the National Assembly and the presidential office site in Sejong. He will also hold separate meetings at the Sejong government complex with the National Research Council for Economics, Humanities and Social Sciences and the National Research Council of Science and Technology.
For meetings such as the Cabinet meeting held in Seoul, Prime Minister Kim plans to commute from Sejong. Observers interpret these actions as a demonstration of the new administration's commitment to its core policy of balanced regional development.
Previously, on July 4, President Lee stated at a town hall meeting held at the Daejeon Convention Center, "The idea of making Chungcheong the administrative capital or relocating the presidential office to Sejong has been on the agenda for quite some time. I believe it is right to fulfill this long-standing promise from the perspective of balanced regional development."
