Lim Eunjeong: "I Will Fulfill the Role of Undertaker for the Prosecution... Determined to Carry It Out Well"

Lim Eunjeong, the newly appointed Chief Prosecutor of the Seoul Eastern District Prosecutors' Office, stated on July 6 that she would fulfill the role of an "undertaker" who brings an era of the prosecution to a close.

On this day, Lim wrote on social media, "I wanted to be a doctor who heals the prosecution, but due to my lack of ability, I have long thought, 'I will end up being the undertaker who holds the funeral for the prosecution.' I also believe that the role of an undertaker is a very heavy responsibility, and I am determined to carry it out well."

Lim recalled, "In February 2018, I appeared as a witness before the fact-finding team that was launched following Prosecutor Seo Ji-hyun's MeToo revelation." She added, "If proper reforms had been made back then in 2018, the tidal wave of investigative structure reform would not have surged so fiercely."

Lim also introduced that investigators at the Eastern District Prosecutors' Office had once resolved to file a collective lawsuit against the decisions of the prosecution's top leadership. She said, "Although they were eventually suppressed due to severe oppression from the Supreme Prosecutors' Office, such as personnel disadvantages, I believe there is a DNA of determination here. That's why I think it's worth trying at this office."

Lim was promoted to Chief Prosecutor of the Eastern District Prosecutors' Office on July 2 and made her first appearance at work on July 4. Her rapid promotion, skipping the position of Deputy Chief Prosecutor, drew significant attention. At her inauguration ceremony, she stated, "Let us acknowledge the targeted investigations, selective investigations, and the cover-ups and leniency shown towards our own colleagues that the public has witnessed for years."
