As temperatures continue to rise each day and a heat wave persists, air conditioner usage rates have also increased, prompting the launch of an energy-saving campaign.
On July 5, Sejong City conducted a summer energy-saving campaign at the Sejong branch of Emart in collaboration with the Sejong Climate and Environment Network. This initiative was organized to promote energy-saving practices among citizens in response to the surge in energy consumption caused by the heat wave.
The campaign provided guidance on practical energy-saving tips, such as raising air conditioner temperature settings by 1°C, maintaining an optimal indoor temperature of 26°C during the summer, turning off unused lights, and unplugging electronic devices that are not in use. Participants were also encouraged to make pledges to practice energy conservation.
In particular, starting July 10, Sejong City plans to conduct on-site power-saving education sessions at 19 apartment complexes in partnership with the Sejong Environmental Education Center to encourage citizens to participate in energy-saving efforts.
These educational sessions will cover topics such as changes in the climate and environment, the necessity of saving energy, practical ways to conserve energy in daily life, and energy usage diagnostics and consulting for each household.
Hwang Jinseo, Director of the Economic Policy Division, stated, "With the ongoing heat wave and increasing energy consumption during the summer, a power shortage is expected. We ask that each household join in practicing energy conservation to achieve a reduction of 1kW in energy usage."
