Opening on September 4, 2028
1,200 Experts to Attend
Daegu Metropolitan Government and EXCO have successfully secured the bid to host the '15th World Filtration Congress 2028' (WFC 2028) in Daegu.
This achievement was made possible by EXCO, Daegu's dedicated international convention organization, which led the bid committee chaired by Professor Choo Kwangho of Kyungpook National University. In collaboration with the Membrane Society of Korea and the Korean Society of Environmental Engineers, Daegu was selected as the final host city over Beijing, China at the International Delegation of Filtration Societies (INDEFI) meeting held on July 2 during the 2025 World Filtration Congress in Bordeaux, France.
The World Filtration Congress is the largest academic conference in the field of filtration and separation technologies. It is held every three to four years, rotating among the member countries of the International Delegation of Filtration Societies.
WFC 2028 will take place at EXCO over five days from September 4 to 8, 2028, and is expected to attract approximately 1,200 experts from 40 countries worldwide. The program will feature keynote lectures, technical workshops, networking events, and exhibitions. The event is anticipated to generate direct and indirect economic benefits totaling around 3 billion KRW.
Daegu is home to Korea's only National Water Industry Cluster, the Korea Water Technology Certification Institute, specialized companies in water treatment and purification technologies, and the environmental analysis equipment industry, making it a city with a concentrated water industry infrastructure. In addition, Daegu's experience hosting the 2015 World Water Forum, the international network of bid committee chair Professor Choo Kwangho (Kyungpook National University), active support from the Korea Tourism Organization, and EXCO's systematic bidding strategy all played key roles in the successful bid.
Kim Kyusik, Executive Vice President of EXCO, who participated in the bidding process, stated, "By hosting this congress, we expect to strengthen Daegu's competitiveness in the water industry and contribute to the overseas expansion and increased exports of local companies." He added, "We also plan to promote Daegu as a global MICE destination where industry and culture coexist, thereby enhancing the international competitiveness of the local MICE and tourism industries."
Meanwhile, as Daegu's dedicated international convention organization, EXCO established the MICE Bureau in August 2024 to systematically support international convention bidding and the local MICE industry. EXCO has also formed a consultative body for MICE stakeholders and is actively engaged in related activities.
