Jin Joongkwon: "No Hope Without Resolving Pro-Yoon Faction"
"A Figure the Party Needs...A Major Decision for the Individual"
Jin Joongkwon, Specially Appointed Professor at Kwangwoon University, predicted that former leader Han Donghoon would run in the upcoming People Power Party leadership election. Professor Jin analyzed Han's situation, stating, "Even if he is elected, it would only be for a year."
In a YouTube broadcast by Sisa Journal released on July 5, Professor Jin explained, "It will be difficult to win the local elections." He argued that even if Han becomes party leader, he would inevitably have to step down if the party loses the election. He pointed out, "To win the local elections, the party needs to secure strong leadership and achieve innovation, but realistically, this is not easy."
Professor Jin continued, "The pro-Yoon Sukyeol faction, which is the mainstream of the People Power Party, was the group that ousted former leader Lee Junseok. They pushed aside all other leadership contenders to install Kim Giheon, only to later remove him as well. They even tried to oust Kim Moonsoo but failed." He added, "If these figures, who are currently serving as Supreme Council members, resign, the party's leadership structure will collapse once again." He went on to say, "From the party's perspective, Han is necessary," arguing that the People Power Party needs Han to achieve change and renewal. He described Han as "the only person who can lead the party down the path of innovation."
He revealed that "even within the pro-Han Donghoon camp, there are quite a few voices advising against running for party leader," but predicted, "In the end, he will run." He further pointed out, "If Han Donghoon ultimately does not run, the People Power Party will have to endure another year under the current system, only to suffer a crushing defeat in the local elections."
