Sagok Mulggoot Park and Sandong Moolbit Park Open
New Facilities Built with 2.5 Billion KRW Investment
Attracting Attention as Summer Retreats for Citizens
Before the peak of the summer heat, the city of Gumi in Gyeongbuk has officially entered the summer season by opening its urban water playgrounds early, allowing citizens to enjoy a cool summer within the city.
This year, Gumi is operating the largest number of water playgrounds in the province, with a total of six sites. In particular, the city has newly established Sandong Moolbit Park and Sagok Mulggoot Park, significantly expanding leisure spaces for residents.
The two facilities, which were developed from 2024 to 2025 with a total project cost of 2.5 billion KRW, have become Gumi’s representative urban water attractions. The city began early operations on June 22, ahead of other local governments, and the facilities will remain open until August 31.
Opening ceremonies were held on July 3 at both Sagok Mulggoot Park and Sandong Moolbit Park, featuring water gun games and water play experience programs that received an enthusiastic response from children and family visitors.
A Gumi city official stated, “Through the opening events, we focused on informing citizens about the rules for using the water playgrounds and on creating a safe environment where everyone can enjoy the facilities with peace of mind.”
The currently operating urban water playgrounds include two sites at Sandong Moolbit Park, Sagok Mulggoot Park, Gupyung Park, Wonho (Munjang-gol) Forest Park, and Bonggok Dabong Park, for a total of six locations. The playgrounds are open daily from 10:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., with regular closures on Mondays.
The city is thoroughly managing hygiene by conducting water quality tests, disinfection, and cleaning, and is ensuring safety by assigning safety personnel at all times to prevent accidents. Notably, the two newly opened parks have been created as family-friendly complex spaces that provide both play and relaxation.
Sagok Mulggoot Park has enhanced its facilities for children by upgrading the existing playground and adding water play equipment, combination play structures, and swings. Sandong Moolbit Park has expanded the area near the water playground to create age-specific spaces tailored to different age groups.
Kim Jangho, Mayor of Gumi, said, “We are doing our utmost to ensure hygiene and safety management so that citizens can enjoy a safe and pleasant summer even during the heat wave. I hope these nearby parks become Gumi’s signature summer destinations where people can stay cool without having to travel far.”
