Prime Minister Kim Pays Courtesy Visit to National Assembly Speaker Woo Wonsik
"Respecting the National Assembly as the Elder Brother of Democracy"
Emphasizes Cooperation for Policies Supporting People's Livelihoods
Prime Minister Kim Minseok visited the National Assembly on July 4 and said, "As President Lee Jaemyung stated, I have come here with the intention of respecting the National Assembly as the elder brother of democracy."
During his courtesy visit to National Assembly Speaker Woo Wonshik at the National Assembly in Yeouido that day, Prime Minister Kim stated, "As someone who assists the head of the executive branch and the President, I am here with respect for the National Assembly, the most important constitutional institution, and I will continue to do so in the future."
Earlier that morning, Prime Minister Kim received his letter of appointment from President Lee Jaemyung at the Presidential Office in Yongsan, and then visited the National Assembly in the afternoon.
Prime Minister Kim said, "We are currently facing a difficult period similar to a second IMF crisis, so we must devote all our efforts to the economy and people's livelihoods. I will always seek your advice and cooperate so that the new government can pursue policies that support the people's livelihoods."
Speaker Woo responded, "The National Assembly has taken the people's wishes seriously and decided that we could not delay the confirmation of the Prime Minister, so we have completed the process. As Speaker, I will also lead the National Assembly in a rational and responsible manner so that both the ruling and opposition parties can prioritize the people's livelihoods and work together through dialogue and consultation."
He continued, "As Prime Minister, you now bear even greater responsibility and a sense of duty in leading state affairs. I have no doubt that your wealth of experience and insight will be of great help in governing the country. Soon, confirmation hearings for ministerial candidates will begin, and I ask that you remain steadfast, listen carefully to voices from the field, and stand at the center of governance that closely attends to the lives of the people."
