'Chungjang Festival D-100'... Dong-gu, Gwangju Recruiting Citizen Participants 'Chungjang Festival D-100' Citizen Participation Program Recruitment Poster. Provided by Donggu, Gwangju

On July 4, Dong-gu, Gwangju announced that it is recruiting participants for its signature citizen participation programs?"The Greatest Avenue of Life," "Chungjang Fairy Tale Village," and the "National Contest Parade"?in anticipation of the 22nd Gwangju Chungjang Festival, which will take place in 100 days.

The district is seeking wedding couples for "The Greatest Avenue of Life," a program for couples wishing to hold a special wedding ceremony on the "Street of Wedding Gifts" in Chungjang-ro 4-ga. Scheduled for October 18 and 19, this program offers couples the chance to create a fairy tale-like wedding filled with cherished memories and the blessings of fellow citizens.

The recruitment will select two couples with unique stories, such as couples who have not yet had a wedding ceremony, parents wishing for a reminder wedding, or couples from multicultural or North Korean defector families. Selected couples will be provided with wedding dresses, tuxedos, makeup, and on-site wedding photography.

Citizen groups are also being sought to help plan and create the "Chungjang Fairy Tale Village," which will transform Geumnam-ro into a playground straight out of a storybook. The goal is to decorate Geumnam-ro in line with the festival’s theme of "Memorable Fairy Tales," offering visitors a sense of nostalgia and imagination.

Eligible applicants include local businesses and citizen organizations capable of operating content such as play, experience, and entertainment programs that can accommodate large numbers of visitors and be presented outdoors. Selected groups will receive benefits such as expert consulting and training, program production funding, online and offline promotional support, and awards for outstanding programs.

Individuals and groups are also being recruited for the "Memorable Fairy Tale Parade," one of the highlights of the 22nd Chungjang Festival. This national contest parade will take place on October 19 from 6:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. along Geumnam-ro, featuring a vibrant procession that expresses "memories" or "memorable fairy tales" regardless of region, generation, or gender.

Any individual or group able to participate in a parade covering a distance of at least 600 meters is eligible, with approximately 20 groups to be selected. Awards will be presented, including the Grand Prize (Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Award), First Prize (Gwangju Mayor’s Award), Excellence Award (Dong-gu District Chief’s Award), and Encouragement Award (Chungjang Festival Committee Chairperson’s Award). Details on how to apply for the citizen participation programs can be found on the Dong-gu District Office and Chungjang Festival websites.

District Chief Lim Taek stated, "We will present a variety of programs to create a vibrant festival made by and for the citizens themselves," adding, "We will strive to ensure that the 22nd Chungjang Festival becomes an unforgettable fairy tale for everyone through the interest and participation of many people."
