The Jeollanam-do Environmental Health Center at Hwasun Chonnam National University Hospital announced on July 4 that it recently participated in the joint forum "The Role of Climate Change and Environmental Health Centers" held at the Jeju Asia Climate Change Education Center. At the forum, the center discussed the assessment of health impacts caused by climate disasters and explored environmental health response measures tailored to regional characteristics.

The forum was jointly hosted and organized by the Environmental Health Centers of Jeollanam-do, Gyeongsangnam-do, and Jeju Special Self-Governing Province, the Climate Change Response Center at Pusan National University, and the Asia Climate Change Education Center. More than 50 participants attended, including representatives from the Ministry of Environment, regional environmental health centers, local governments, related organizations, and experts.

The event featured presentations on the main roles and current initiatives of the Climate Change Response Center and the Asia Climate Change Education Center. There were also reports on the status of heat waves and heat-related illnesses by region, as well as response strategies.

The Jeollanam-do Environmental Health Center shared analyses of trends in climate disasters and their health impacts within the province, and proposed policy directions for Jeollanam-do-style environmental health, drawing attention from those on the ground.

On the same day, Park Eunyoung, secretary-general of the Jeollanam-do Environmental Health Center, gave a presentation titled "The Role of Climate Change and Environmental Health Centers - Focusing on Heat-Related Illnesses," explaining the current state of health risks and response strategies related to heat waves and heat-related illnesses.

Park Wonju, director of the Jeollanam-do Environmental Health Center and professor in the Department of Occupational and Environmental Medicine at Hwasun Chonnam National University Hospital, participated as a panelist and exchanged opinions on strengthening cooperation among centers and linking policies to address the increasing health risks caused by climate change.

Director Park Wonju stated, "Joint response systems and cooperative networks between regions are becoming increasingly important in addressing the climate crisis," and added, "We will continue to promote proactive environmental health policies to protect the health of local residents."
