Increasing Scrap Utilization and Using Self-Generated Renewable Energy
On July 4, POSCO announced that it is partnering with Franke, the largest system kitchen manufacturer in Europe, to introduce customized premium stainless steel sink products for customers.
This product has increased the proportion of scrap used to over 90% and is manufactured using self-generated renewable energy, such as solar power. Its key feature is the reduction of carbon emissions during the production process.
After verification by the German certification body TUV SUD, the product received a Product Carbon Footprint (PCF) certification and was evaluated to reduce carbon emissions by 60% compared to products with Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) certification.
On June 23 (local time), POSCO signed a material supply agreement with Franke in Verona, Italy. Franke plans to expand its premium product lineup in Europe and strengthen its eco-friendly product range.
Filippo Maltempi, Executive Vice President of Purchasing and Development at Franke, said, "Since our first transaction in 2012, we have continuously expanded our purchases of POSCO stainless steel products due to our high satisfaction with their quality. As a result, POSCO has become the largest supplier of stainless steel products to Franke."
Lee Kyungjin, Head of Stainless Steel Marketing at POSCO, stated, "We plan to actively support the carbon reduction efforts of various customers, not only for kitchen sink products but also for home appliances, and to expand our market presence in the global stainless steel industry."
