Branding Logo Planning and Spatial Design Supervision
Showcased at Millak Waterside Park and Other Locations
Professor Hong Dongsik (Visual Design) and Professor Kim Myun (Industrial Design) from Pukyong National University are drawing attention for designing a project where the sea, books, city, and culture of Busan converge.
This project is the '2025 Busan Bada Library', which has been held at Busan Millak Waterside Park on weekends from June 14 to July 6, jointly hosted by Busan Metropolitan City and the Busan Cultural Foundation.

The project aims to transform the fluid space of the beach into a sensory reading experience and to present new possibilities for public design.
The visual system and branding logo for this project were planned by Professor Hong Dongsik, while the spatial design and experiential UX planning were overseen by Professor Kim Myun (Director of the BK21 MADEC Education Research Group). Through collaboration between the spatial and visual fields, the project achieved a high level of completeness. Centered on the keyword 'nomad sensibility', they created a new public cultural platform on Busan's beach, combining reading, experience, and design.
Professor Hong incorporated the dynamism and natural beauty of the maritime city of Busan into the logo by combining the curves of waves symbolizing Busan's sea with the Korean consonants 'ㄷ', 'ㅅ', and 'ㄱ' in line art. The visual system, based on the colors of the sea, was reinterpreted with a minimal and modern sensibility, aiming for a design that is easily accessible to all citizens.
Professor Kim realized a beach-style reading experience where visitors can 'read as if shopping and enjoy by unfolding'. He designed modular bookshelves inspired by plastic crates and mobile frame furniture, transforming bookshelves and furniture into both tools for holding books and elements of the landscape. By turning the entire beach into a 'scene of reading', he redefined the concept of a library.
Starting with Millak Waterside Park, Busan Bada Library will be held at Songnim Park in Haeundae in August, and at Dadaepo Beach Park from September to October. At each of these three locations, the moment a bookshelf is placed on the open space of the sea will be designed to create a sensory reading space for all age groups to enjoy together.
This project is expected to be remembered as a new cultural experiment that goes beyond simply creating a space for reading, exploring the intersection of urban lifestyle and public design.
