"Iran Wants to Talk With Us...
If Necessary, I Will Meet Them Myself"
U.S. President Donald Trump stated on the 3rd (local time) that there was "no progress" regarding the halt of the war in Ukraine during his phone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Speaking to reporters at Joint Base Andrews near Washington, D.C. that day, President Trump said, "It was quite a long call," and made these remarks.
President Trump said, "We talked about many things, including Iran. And, as you know, we also discussed the war in Ukraine. I am dissatisfied with that part (the war in Ukraine)," he stated.
When asked why the Department of Defense had stopped shipping weapons to Ukraine, he replied, "We are providing weapons, but we have given too many weapons so far." He added, "We are working with Ukraine and trying to help them," and further stated, "Former President Biden stripped the whole country to provide weapons to them, and we have to make sure we have enough (weapons) for ourselves."
Regarding reports that Steve Witkoff, the special envoy for the Middle East, is planning to hold high-level talks with Iran next week, President Trump said, "We'll see," and added, "Iran wants to talk (with us), and I think Iran wants to talk to me, and it's about time they did." He continued, "We are not trying to hurt Iran; we want Iran to become a country again," and said, "I know Iran wants to meet, and if necessary, I will do it, but Steve is deeply involved and he is doing a fantastic job."
President Trump also expressed great anticipation that his signature initiative, the "One Big Beautiful Bill," had passed Congress and that a signing ceremony would be held on the afternoon of July 4th, America's Independence Day. He said the bill would "boost the U.S. economy like a rocket ship," and called it "the largest bill ever signed."
