Gimpo City in Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Kim Byungsoo) announced on July 3 that it will begin accepting applications for its second-half electric vehicle (passenger and cargo) private supply program starting July 4. This initiative aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and improve air quality.
In the first half of this year, Gimpo City supplied 595 electric passenger vehicles and 112 electric cargo vehicles. Through this announcement, the city plans to supply a total of 1,180 electric passenger vehicles and 565 electric cargo vehicles in the second half, including the remaining quantities from the first half, with the goal of distributing a total of 1,745 electric vehicles to the private sector in the second half of the year.
The subsidy amount varies by vehicle type. For electric passenger vehicles, up to 9.23 million KRW is provided, while for small (general cargo) electric cargo vehicles, up to 20.5 million KRW is available.
For passenger vehicles, additional support is available for individuals in the lower income bracket, first-time vehicle buyers among young people, multi-child families, those scrapping old electric vehicles and repurchasing electric vehicles, and electric taxis. For cargo vehicles, additional support is provided for individuals in the lower income bracket, small business owners, farmers, those scrapping old diesel vehicles early, and electric delivery vehicles. Eligible vehicle models and subsidy amounts can be checked through the Zero Emission Vehicle Integrated Portal.
Applicants must be citizens who have maintained their address in Gimpo City continuously for at least three months prior to the application date, or corporations with business locations within the city. To apply, the purchaser must sign a purchase contract and fill out an application form with a manufacturer or sales agency, which will then submit the application through the Zero Emission Vehicle Subsidy System.
Recipients will be selected in the order of vehicle delivery and registration. If the eligible vehicle is not delivered within two months from the date of qualification, the selection will be canceled. Electric vehicle purchasers who receive a subsidy are subject to a mandatory operation period and a restriction on re-application (two years for both passenger and cargo vehicles).
