About 3,400 Elderly and Disabled People
Visiting Nursing Services and Guidance on Preventive Measures
Damyang County in South Jeolla Province (Governor: Jung Chulwon) announced on July 3 that it will strengthen its home health management services for vulnerable groups as record-breaking heat waves continue day after day.
The focus group for intensive management consists of about 3,400 people, including the elderly and people with disabilities. Professional staff, such as visiting nurses from each town and township, will visit homes and senior centers to measure blood pressure and blood sugar, provide health consultations, and offer guidance on how to cope with the heat wave. For those who are difficult to visit in person, the county plans to continuously monitor their health status through regular phone check-ins and greetings.
The recommended preventive actions include: drinking water frequently; refraining from outdoor activities during hot hours (until 5 p.m.); wearing well-ventilated clothing; using cooling shelters; checking weather information daily; seeking medical attention if feeling unwell; and calling 119 in case of emergency.
An official from the county said, "By practicing health guidelines in daily life and conducting preemptive checks, we can greatly reduce the damage caused by heat waves," and added, "We will make even greater efforts to ensure that those vulnerable to the heat can spend the summer safely and in good health."
