On July 3, Chungnam Governor Kim Taeheum stated, "At the starting point of Korea's prosperity lies the dedication of the Vietnam War veterans," and emphasized, "It is my firm belief that those who have devoted themselves to the nation must be duly rewarded."
Governor Kim made these remarks while attending the 16th anniversary ceremony of the South Vietnam Veterans Association Chungnam Branch, held at the provincial government Cultural and Arts Center on the same day.
The event, hosted by the South Vietnam Veterans Association Chungnam Branch, was attended by Governor Kim, Branch President Song Gilun, members from 15 cities and counties in the province, as well as heads of related institutions and organizations, totaling over 900 participants.
The ceremony proceeded in the following order: a pre-event program, awards for distinguished service, a security resolution rally, a joint singing by three military units, and three cheers for the nation.
To honor the sacrifice and dedication of Vietnam War veterans, the province provides a veterans' honor allowance of at least 400,000 won, and supports about 1.5 billion won in daily necessities discounts for over 30,000 families of patriots and veterans. In addition, the province has lifted the limit on medical expense support for independence patriots.
Governor Kim stated, "Chungnam will never forget that the noble sacrifice and dedication of the veterans made today's Korea possible," and added, "We will do our utmost to ensure your honor and pride shine forever, and strive to build an even greater Republic of Korea."
Meanwhile, Chungnam Province is currently negotiating with the Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs to attract a National Cemetery, as it is the only metropolitan-level local government without one.
