The Korea Wind Energy Industry Association (KWEIA) and the Japan Wind Power Association (JWPA) announced on the 3rd that they had signed a "Korea-Japan Joint Cooperation MOU for the Development of the Asian Wind Industry" at the "2025 Offshore Wind Supply Chain Conference and Exhibition" held on the 2nd at BEXCO in Busan.

The main objective of this MOU is to establish a close cooperative relationship between Korea and Japan, strengthen industrial and supply chain networks, and expand opportunities for technology exchange and mutual investment. Through this, both associations aim to reinforce joint leadership in the Asian region.

Both Korea and Japan have set ambitious renewable energy targets, and are particularly striving to secure a leading position in the Asian market with a focus on offshore wind power. The two countries possess complementary strengths in technology, industrial infrastructure, and policy experience. There has been a growing need for joint response and enhanced cooperation in the rapidly expanding Asian wind power market.

Through the MOU, the two associations agreed to: ▲ support the expansion of business opportunities and promote supply chain cooperation for the development of wind energy technology and market expansion; ▲ strengthen strategic cooperation and host joint seminars, workshops, and networking events; ▲ and pursue other joint activities to lead the wind power industry in the Asian region.

The MOU is valid until December 31, 2027, and will be extended in two-year increments unless otherwise agreed.

Seungcheol Lee, Vice Chairman of the Korea Wind Energy Industry Association, stated, "It is very meaningful that the wind energy associations of Korea and Japan are joining hands to take the first step toward the development of the Asian wind power market. Through this cooperation, I hope both countries will play complementary roles and jointly drive the growth of the Asian wind industry."

Masaru Akiyoshi, Chairman of the Japan Wind Power Association, said, "This MOU is a significant milestone that deepens the cooperative ties between the two associations, and enables us to share leadership for realizing a decarbonized society in Asia through technological exchange and supply chain enhancement in the wind power sector. We will continue to steadily deepen our relationship within this framework going forward."
