KICPA to Hold 19th Sustainability Certification Forum on July 9

The Korean Institute of Certified Public Accountants (KICPA) announced on July 3 that it will hold the 19th Sustainability Certification Forum on July 9.


This forum will focus on global sustainability reporting and certification, as well as the current status of greenhouse gas emissions measurement and verification in Korea. Park Sungwon, Senior Researcher at KICPA, and Kim Imhyeon, Professor at Daegu University, will deliver keynote presentations. Park will address the current status of global sustainability reporting and certification, while Kim will discuss the measurement and verification of greenhouse gas emissions in Korea and its implications.


The comprehensive panel discussion will be chaired by Jeon Gyuan, Professor at Soongsil University. Panelists include Kim Beomjun, Professor at Catholic University; Park Seongyong, Senior Expert at the Korea Standards Association; Yoon Jinsu, Director at the Korea ESG Standards Institute; Lee Mikyung, Leader at POSCO; Lee Unghee, Standing Member at the Korea Accounting Standards Board; Lee Jingyu, Partner at Samil PwC; Lee Hyoseop, Director at the Capital Market Research Institute; and Lim Jaehyun, Environmental Researcher at the National Institute of Environmental Research.


Choi Woonyeol, President of KICPA, stated, "As sustainable management becomes central to corporate strategy, the importance of information reporting and certification continues to grow, with greenhouse gas emissions data being a core element of sustainability reporting. I hope this forum will provide a valuable opportunity to review global trends in sustainability reporting and certification, examine the current status of greenhouse gas emissions measurement and verification in Korea, and discuss response strategies for Korean companies as well as the role of the accounting industry."


Meanwhile, KICPA has been actively sharing the accounting industry's expertise on sustainability certification through the Sustainability Certification Forum, continuously providing a platform for discussing relevant issues and response strategies. In addition, the institute has been striving to establish sustainability disclosure and certification practices in Korea through various initiatives such as translating and providing education on international certification standards, operating an ESG Academy, and publishing related materials.
