Pukyong National University (President Bae Sanghun) has been selected for the 'External Cooperation R&D Planning Support Project' organized by the Busan Institute of Science & Technology Promotion (BISTEP), and will begin planning a project to foster specialized talent in the field of digital manufacturing.
This project will be led by the Pukyong National University RISE Project Group and aims to advance technology and nurture talent in the digital manufacturing system integration (SI) industry. It is being promoted as a planning task to secure large and medium-sized national public projects.
BISTEP's 'External Cooperation R&D Planning Support Project' is designed to proactively plan national public projects required by local universities, research institutes, and industries, and to support the preparation of application forms and proposals.
Pukyong National University plans to secure a large-scale R&D project worth a total of 16.3 billion KRW through this initiative. To achieve this, the university will form an academic-research-industry consortium with Kyungsung University, Busan Technopark, Korea Institute of Science and Technology Information (KISTI), and the Korea Auto Parts Materials Industry Technology Research Association, with the goal of producing a project plan within this year.
The project will include plans to advance technology based on artificial intelligence and blockchain, as well as strategies to train practical experts for the digital transformation of the manufacturing SI industry. Specifically, the university aims to nurture more than 400 specialized professionals over five years through the operation of micro-degree-based interdisciplinary majors for undergraduates, intensive weekend training programs for employees, and industry-collaborative project-based practicums and capstone design courses.
In addition, by utilizing advanced training infrastructure such as the Smart Factory Lab and IoT Integrated Practice Room, the university will strengthen demand-driven education in areas such as blockchain authentication technology, AI-based quality control, and predictive maintenance. The university also plans to design an advanced talent cultivation system that connects technology verification and on-site application through practical training linked to industrial sites.
Kim Chanjung, head of the Pukyong National University RISE Project Group, said, "This project is a concrete implementation model of the Open UIC strategy being promoted by the RISE Project Group, and it will become a hub for nurturing high-level talent to lead digital manufacturing innovation." He added, "We will contribute to the regional industrial ecosystem by achieving tangible results, including in the energy tech field."
