Special Prosecutor Summons Kim Sunghoon on July 3 for Martial Law Case... Silent Appearance
Previously Imposed Travel Bans on Kim and Lee Gwangwoo
Kim Sunghoon, former Deputy Chief of the Presidential Security Service, appeared before Special Prosecutor Cho Eunseok's team on July 3 to be questioned regarding the 12·3 Martial Law incident, which involves charges of insurrection and treason.
Kim arrived at the Seoul High Prosecutors' Office at approximately 9:24 a.m. on this day. He remained silent in response to reporters' questions, including whether he was there to be questioned about secure phone usage, whether he was appearing as a suspect, whether he was being investigated regarding instructions related to the Cabinet meeting, and whether he had received orders from former President Yoon Sukyeol to prevent an arrest.
Kim is accused of obstructing the execution of an arrest warrant for former President Yoon Sukyeol by the Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials and other agencies in January. He is also suspected of deleting secure phone call records of key officials immediately after the declaration of martial law, allegedly under the direction of former President Yoon.
The special prosecutor previously took over investigation records concerning Kim and Lee Gwangwoo, former Chief of the Security Headquarters, and imposed travel bans on them.
The special prosecutor's team is currently investigating several allegations ahead of former President Yoon's second summons on July 5, including obstruction of the Corruption Investigation Office's execution of an arrest warrant, orders to delete secure phone records, abuse of authority related to the Cabinet meeting, and illegal foreign currency acquisition.
