Sungan Materials, a company specializing in textiles, announced on July 3 that its proprietary brand "SOFINITY," developed with spunlobe fabric targeting the Middle Eastern traditional clothing market, has achieved cumulative orders totaling 280,000 yards this year.
Spunlobe is a type of fabric used in products worn on the head and in one-piece traditional garments in the Middle East. In Saudi Arabia, this garment is called "Thobe," in the UAE and Qatar it is known as "Kandura," and in Kuwait it is referred to as "Dishdasha."
Until now, the spunlobe market has been divided between high-quality but expensive and slow-to-deliver Japanese products, and lower-priced but less reliable Chinese products in terms of quality and technology. According to the research firm Market Research Store, the Middle Eastern spunlobe fabric market for traditional clothing was estimated at $4.67 billion (approximately 6.3 trillion KRW) in 2023. The market is projected to grow at a CAGR of 9.8%, reaching $10.83 billion (approximately 14.6 trillion KRW) by 2032.
Recognizing the potential of this market, Sungan Materials began analyzing popular spunlobe-related items in the Middle East in the first half of last year and subsequently embarked on technology development. As a result, by the end of last year, the company succeeded in developing a high-quality product based on soft materials that offers excellent breathability, rapid sweat absorption, outstanding durability, and wrinkle resistance.
Previously, Sungan Materials had established trust and product competitiveness in the Middle Eastern market?particularly in Saudi Arabia?through its brand "SOFSIL." To inherit the brand value and tradition of "SOFSIL," the company named its newly developed proprietary brand "SOFINITY." The name "SOFINITY" is a portmanteau of "SOFT" and "INFINITY," emphasizing the endlessly soft quality of the fabric.
After launching the "SOFINITY" brand, the company signed its first contract for 80,000 yards in February. More recently, it secured an additional contract for 200,000 yards with a Saudi Arabian company. With cumulative orders reaching 280,000 yards this year, the company has confirmed the potential for brand expansion across the Middle East. Sungan Materials is currently in discussions with multiple buyers in the region regarding follow-up orders and long-term supply agreements, aiming for a stable annual supply of over 2 million yards in the future.
