Faster and Improved Detection Compared to the P-3
"Enhancing the Navy's Air Operations Capabilities and Readiness"
The operational deployment of the 'submarine killer' P-8A Poseidon, introduced by the Navy, has begun.
On July 3, the Navy announced that it has commenced operational deployment of six new P-8A Poseidon maritime patrol aircraft.
The P-8A aircraft now entering operational service were manufactured by Boeing in the United States in 2023, and after acquisition and training in the United States, they arrived in Korea in June 2024. Over the past year, the Navy has completed all preparations for the operational deployment of the P-8A, including the training of crew members and maintenance personnel, day and night flight training, tactical training, and final evaluations.
The new P-8A maritime patrol aircraft are tasked with missions such as anti-submarine warfare, anti-surface warfare, and maritime patrol operations.
The Navy stated, "The P-8A offers a higher maximum speed and improved detection capabilities compared to the P-3 maritime patrol aircraft, and is expected to enhance the Navy's air operations capabilities and readiness posture."
