SEMAS Becomes First in Organization to Obtain Personal Information Protection Certification

SEMAS Obtains Personal Information Protection Certification
Lays Foundation for Safer Services with Support from the Korea Association for ICT Promotion

The Small Enterprise and Market Service (SEMAS) announced on July 3 that its 'Small Business Policy Fund Website' has been recognized as an excellent web and system for personal information protection, becoming the first in the organization to obtain personal information protection certification.

SEMAS Becomes First in Organization to Obtain Personal Information Protection Certification

The Personal Information Protection Certification (ePRIVACY PLUS) is a comprehensive evaluation conducted by the Korea Association for ICT Promotion to determine whether personal information is managed securely throughout its entire lifecycle, from collection to storage and disposal. To obtain this certification, an organization must not only comply with legal requirements but also operate practical protection measures and internal control systems.

To obtain the certification, SEMAS established a dedicated personal information protection team within the organization, strengthened administrative and technical protection measures for personal information, revised internal regulations related to personal information, and reviewed consent forms for the collection and use of personal information. The organization also provided customized training for all employees according to their job responsibilities. In particular, SEMAS was recognized for its investments in technical protection measures and the adoption of new technologies, such as managing access logs to personal information processing systems, detecting abnormal activities, and identifying personal information within images.

With this certification, SEMAS has laid the foundation for providing even safer services by receiving benefits from the Korea Association for ICT Promotion, including support for personal information protection training, provision of inspection support systems, and web vulnerability assessments.

Park Sunghyo, President of SEMAS, stated, "As a public institution handling the information of small business owners and the public, responsible management of personal information is crucial." He added, "SEMAS will continue to enhance its administrative and technical systems to prevent personal information leakage or exposure incidents in advance, and will strive to remain an institution that prioritizes and guarantees the rights of information subjects above all else."
