Agreement on Conditions for 60-Day Ceasefire Confirmed
Final Proposal Delivered to Qatar and Egypt
Trump and Netanyahu to Meet on July 7
On July 1 (local time), U.S. President Donald Trump announced that Israel had agreed to a ceasefire proposal related to the war in the Gaza Strip between Israel and the armed group Hamas. President Trump urged Hamas to accept the ceasefire before the situation deteriorates further.
On his own social networking service, Truth Social, President Trump wrote, "Israel has agreed to the necessary conditions to finalize a 60-day ceasefire." He added, "We will work with all parties to bring an end to the war."
He stated, "We will deliver this final proposal to Qatar and Egypt, who have worked very hard to help achieve peace," and urged, "For the sake of the Middle East, I hope Hamas will accept this proposal."
According to U.S. media outlet Axios, "President Trump, after brokering a ceasefire between Israel and Iran following 12 days of armed conflict, is now seeking a breakthrough in the Gaza Strip conflict that has lasted for more than a year and a half."
President Trump is scheduled to hold a summit with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on July 7. Earlier, Israeli Minister Ron Dermer, who visited the United States, met with senior U.S. officials, including White House Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff, to discuss the Gaza ceasefire and related issues. President Trump's announcement regarding the ceasefire also came immediately after this meeting.
However, foreign media reported that it is still uncertain whether Hamas will accept the proposal. The proposal reportedly includes provisions for a hostage exchange, expanded humanitarian aid, and negotiations on the postwar governance structure of the Gaza Strip. However, it remains unclear whether there is agreement on the key issues.
