Jin Jinsook, a lawmaker from the Democratic Party of Korea representing Buk-gu Eul in Gwangju, commented on July 2 regarding the city's decision to resume the Honam Expressway expansion project. She stated, "To promptly address the residents' long-standing wish of over 30 years, I will do my utmost to restore the 36.7 billion won in national funding that was cut in this year's second supplementary budget."
On July 1, the city gathered public opinions on the Honam Expressway expansion project through a citizen forum and reached a final decision to revive the national budget and resume the project.
Jin emphasized, "The Honam Expressway expansion project should not only be pursued to alleviate residents' transportation inconveniences, but also as an initiative to expand infrastructure for regional development and to revitalize Gwangju's economy." She stressed the need for prompt and continuous progress on the project.
Jin has continuously communicated with government policy officials to seek various solutions for alleviating local traffic congestion and expanding transportation infrastructure. During the last presidential election, she directly submitted the "Honam Expressway Expansion Project and Gateway Road Transportation Infrastructure Support" as a core pledge for the Buk-gu region by candidate Lee Jaemyung, ensuring its inclusion among the region's top priority pledges.
