Kim Kyungho Puts Communication with Residents at the Center of District Administration
On-Site Communication and Resident Engagement Mark Third Anniversary of the Eighth Administration
Strengthening Flood Safety and Urban Development through Resident Feedback
Gwangjin District in Seoul will mark the third anniversary of the 8th popularly elected administration this month by further strengthening on-site communication. The district plans to focus on communication-based administration that incorporates residents' opinions into district policies across five key areas: safety, culture, welfare, economy, and education.

Since the start of the 8th administration, the district has made "communication" a core value in its operations, striving to resolve civil complaints and promote urban development as its two main pillars. The district has implemented policies that residents can feel in their daily lives, such as introducing a six-day-per-week household waste collection system, operating a neighborhood responsibility system, reorganizing street vendors, and promoting alleyway communication. Remarkable achievements have also been made in urban development, including the expansion of commercial areas (by 55,000 square meters), an increase in potential redevelopment sites (from 30,000 square meters to 2.71 million square meters), and the development of the Gwangjin District Integrated Government Complex High-Tech Business Complex.
On July 1, Mayor Kim Kyungho of Gwangjin District began his first official schedule for the third anniversary with an on-site inspection of flood-prone areas in Gwangjang-dong. Together with about 20 residents, he visited the Gwangjang Rainwater Pump Station and Gwangjin Information Library to inspect the operation system of the pump station and the management of flood control materials. In particular, in the area around Gwangjin Information Library, which is at risk of flooding from the Han River, he received a report on flood prevention measures and exchanged a variety of opinions with residents. He also visited the Hongryunbong Fortification reinforcement construction site in Achasan to personally check the maintenance of drainage channels and sedimentation basins.
Mayor Kim emphasized, "The safety of our residents is the top priority," and added, "We will minimize flood damage during the monsoon season and continuously monitor flood-prone areas to protect the lives and property of our residents. We will also thoroughly prepare for heat waves so that residents can feel safe and secure."
Since the start of the 8th administration, Gwangjin District has implemented tangible policies such as a six-day-per-week household waste collection system, a neighborhood responsibility system, street vendor reorganization, and alleyway communication. The district has also achieved results in urban development, including the expansion of commercial areas, an increase in potential redevelopment sites, and the development of the Integrated Government Complex High-Tech Business Complex.
Internal communication with staff has also continued. At a photo zone in front of the mayor's office, Mayor Kim encouraged about 50 staff members and reaffirmed his commitment to communication and development. He also expressed his gratitude to employees who have worked together over the past three years through an internal email. Gwangjin District plans to actively reflect on-site feedback in district policies by conducting a library communication tour in the cultural sector, visiting senior centers in the welfare sector, communicating with traditional market merchants in the economic sector, and holding meetings with parents in the education sector.
Mayor Kim Kyungho stated, "For the past three years, I have been communicating in the field with the belief that residents are the true experts in district administration," and added, "I will continue to make Gwangjin District more communicative and more advanced in the future."
